8 Weeks Before Moving Day
Start early and you will thank yourself later. The first step is to declutter every room in your home. Be ruthless — if you have not used it in a year, consider donating, selling, or recycling it. This is also the perfect time to start collecting quotes from removal companies.
Get Your Quotes
We recommend getting at least three quotes. Look for BAR-accredited companies who will conduct a proper survey of your belongings. At Hardakers, we offer free no-obligation quotes with a home visit or video survey.
6 Weeks Before
Start your packing with rooms and items you use least. Label every box clearly with its contents and destination room. Begin notifying important parties of your address change: your bank, GP, DVLA, and utility providers.
4 Weeks Before
Confirm your removal date and any additional services like packing or storage. Arrange mail redirection through Royal Mail. Start running down frozen food stocks.
2 Weeks Before
Begin packing in earnest. Keep a "moving day essentials" box with kettle, mugs, toilet roll, phone chargers, snacks, and important documents. Confirm parking arrangements at both addresses.
Moving Day
The big day! Take meter readings at both properties. Do a final walkthrough of every room, including loft and garden shed. Hand over all keys and enjoy your new home.
